THE INSPIRATION
an ounce of persperation
DEADHEADERS was inspired by an incident between writer Bruce Davidson and a Bike Courier while Bruce worked as a City Bus Operator.
Although Bruce has witnessed too many bizarre and incredible events aboard his bus, some of them have made their way into his novel, DEADHEADERS and, subsequently, into his 8 one-hour episodes of the limited series written by Bruce.
The Story
DEADHEADERS is the story of Myles, a young man who takes on a potential career as a Bus Operator for Metrocity Transit, named after the fictitious town. While deadheading his “out of service” bus after a late shift, the novice Bus Operator is involved in a fatal collision with another young man. In the dead of the cold winter’s night, the first witness to arrive is Max, another Bus Operator, who offers Myles an out. With a phone call, several other Bus Operators arrive to help with the gruesome cover-up. The Bus Operators who have helped Myles cover up his crash are secretive and dangerous group. They call themselves Deadheaders, and now Myles is a member.
The master plan
the growth of an idea
Bruce Davidson has written a novel, many short film scripts, several feature-length screenplays and now DEADHEADERS is becoming a limited-series drama.
This sometimes gruesome 8 one-hour episodic series is filled dark humor as it follows Myles through his own hell as he copes with the fear and guilt of accidentally killing someone and then intentionally hiding the body.
The one-hour pilot script placed as a Quarterfinalist in January 2024 with Filmatic – Pitch Now Screenplay Competition, Season 6 and placed as a Semifinalist with BlueCat Screenplay Contest in April of 2024.
The Production Team
An Army of Two
Scott and Bruce met as six-year-olds. By eleven, they were writing scripts, building models, costumes and sets while filming in 8mm. While Scott went off to pursue his career in film and television production, it would be decades before Bruce and Scott would find themselves again working on creative projects.
